Offshore Gambling Concerns Strike Back
Last year offshore gambling was in the spotlight as Antigua & Barbuda brought charges against the US for passing laws that drastically reduced the islands' revenue.
Gambling is illegal in the US, but many Americans access offshore gambling websites. This practice was jeopardized as the Leach LaFalce Internet Gambling Enforcement Act came into play. The act made it a crime for an offshore gambling business to accept credit cards, wire transfers, or any other banking instrument to fund gaming transactions. This effectively cut around 5000 jobs in the struggling island economy that relies heavily on its offshore gambling for revenue.
